Our Story
Every year, teachers spend over 500 hours grading papers.
That’s 500 hours away from actual teaching. Every hour spent grading is an hour lost from the human connection that actually drives student motivation.
As educators ourselves, we had a simple question:
What if we could give teachers that time back, without compromising the quality of assessment?
That question became our only focus.

HOW SMARTAIL CAME TO BE
Six years in the making
In 2019, we observed something across schools – teachers were spending hundreds of hours grading stacks of answer sheets. Nearly 30–40% of their working time was going into evaluation instead of teaching & mentoring students.
Despite all that effort, assessments mostly produced marks, but not always clear insights into where students were struggling.
We saw an opportunity to change that through AI. We sat with teachers to understand their challenges and reimagine how their efforts could be transformed into meaningful insights, helping them focus on what truly matters: guiding students to learn & grow.
